Publication of "Disclosure by Life Insurers - Toranomaki (2014)"

25 July, 2014

The Life Insurance Association of Japan, the LIAJ (Chairman: Koichiro Watanabe, the President of The Dai-ichi Life Insurance Company) has published 2014 edition of the "Disclosure by Life Insurers - Toranomaki", an explanatory booklet on the "public disclosure materials (explanatory documents on the status of business and property)" that every life insurer annually publishes.

Every life insurer compiles "public disclosure materials" every year. Given that financial condition of life insurers has lots of technical terms and its accounting method is different from that of other sectors in many aspects, the LIAJ publishes and distributes the "Toranomaki" every year since 1998 in order to facilitate people's understanding on the contents of public disclosure materials.

Previously, since publishing 2011 edition, we addressed any changes to the "Toranomaki" due to amendments of the Insurance Business Act etc. by preparing a supplemental material attached to it. On this occasion, we revised the booklet itself to reflect those changes for the first time in 3 years. Also, we summarized and simplified the explanations on "policy reserve", "solvency margin ratio" and so on.

The LIAJ will distribute the booklets for free to consumer centers across Japan (about 380) and consumer organizations etc., and also keep them in the LIAJ's local offices across Japan so as to distribute them widely to consumers.
