29 May, 2015
The Life Insurance Association of Japan, the LIAJ (Chairman: Koichiro Watanabe, President of The Dai-ichi Life Insurance Company) has engaged in "Activities to Enhance Family Bonds by Reading Picture Books to Children" to provide opportunities for deepening family bonds.
This activity aims to spread and promote the custom of reading picture books to children and to provide opportunities for people to spend time with their families. In particular, the LIAJ will support the holding of the workshops on how to read picture books to children by Japan Publishing Industry Foundation for Culture (JPIC) as well as the holding of sessions for reading picture books to children.
These workshops will be held in 33 places across Japan between June 2015 and February 2016.
The Japanese Government established "Family Day" and "Family Week" to encourage people to re-realize the importance of family and the community who support child-raising. In line with such efforts, the LIAJ would like to contribute to the enhancement of family communication through reading picture books to children.
1.Holding Workshops on How to Read Picture Books to Children
The workshops are for those who are interested in reading picture books to children (e.g. those who want to start reading picture books to children or those who want to review the basics), where participants can learn the basics of reading picture books, the way to choose books that match children’s age or places to read, and major points to keep in mind when planning a program. The workshops include special lectures by popular authors about the inside story of their picture books and special lectures by child education experts about the interrelationship between child’s development and reading picture books.
2.Supporting the Holding of Sessions for Reading Picture Books to Children
For the participants of above workshops, who are planning to hold sessions for reading picture books to children based on what they learned at the workshops, the LIAJ provides the set of books for the sessions. (Candidates are organizations targeted at infants and their parents)
