LIAJ decides to provide scholarship to eight students as the Scholarship Program for International Students in Japan (Seiho Scholarship Program)
14 July, 2015
The Life Insurance Association of Japan, LIAJ (Chairman: Koichiro Watanabe, President of The Dai-ichi Life Insurance Company), considering the importance of the international contribution and exchange, established the "Scholarship Program for Self-Supporting International Students in Japan" for self-supporting international students (undergraduate students) from Southeast Asia and East Asia for the purpose of supporting their study in Japan. Through this program, the LIAJ recruited 339 international students from fiscal 1990 to fiscal 2011 in cooperation with "The Ishizaka Foundation".
After that, the operation of the scholarship was relegated to "Japan Educational Exchanges and Services" and the program was renewed as "Scholarship Program for International Students in Japan (Seiho Scholarship Program)". This renewed program has been providing scholarship since fiscal 2014.
To achieve their own goals, students on this scholarship are studying hard every day in Japan, a foreign country to them, while balancing schoolwork with their side-jobs very well at the same time.
The LIAJ would like to support their study in Japan and their goal achievement and to contribute to promote international exchange in Japan by implementing this scholarship program (providing one hundred thousand yen every month for two years, free of repayment obligation).
This year, the LIAJ has recruited eight juniors as students on the Scholarship Program for International Students in Japan for fiscal 2015, selected from 21 students of 21 universities among 22 universities (one student per university) which are covered by the program.
Together with eight students on the scholarship from last year, who has become seniors this spring, the number of students to whom the LIAJ provides scholarship this fiscal year becomes 16 in total.
