LIAJ Publishes Survey Results on Approaches toward Enhancing Equity Values

20 April 2018

The Life Insurance Association of Japan, the LIAJ (Chairman: Masahiro Hashimoto, President of Sumitomo Life Insurance Co.) has been conducting surveys continuously over a 44-year period starting in FY1974 regarding approaches toward enhancing equity values from the perspective of shareholders (i.e. investors).

The LIAJ expects enhanced equity values prompted by closer and deeper communication between companies and investors and common awareness of the surrounding issues to serve eventually as an accelerator for revitalization of the overall stock market.

To this end, in Fiscal 2017, the LIAJ conducted another questionnaire survey on awareness and efforts of companies and investors, and concluded its analyses by drawing out some requests to each of them on potential areas and activities that should be improved toward enhanced equity values as provided in the summery report. In addition, the LIAJ carried out a research with an aim to help insurance companies to conduct stewardship activities in a more effective manner, and key takeaways are given in the Special Feature section.
