Yukinori Takada

Chairperson

The Life Insurance Association of Japan (LIAJ)

I would like to welcome the recent decision to hold the Annual General Meeting (AGM) and the Annual Conference of the International Association of Insurance Supervisors (IAIS) in November 2023 in Tokyo, Japan, as well as to show my respect for the Japanese government and the Financial Services Agency for their tireless efforts to have Japan host the AGM and the Annual Conference.

In addition to addressing the spread and effects of the global Covid-19 pandemic, as well as the impact of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, there are many debatable issues and challenges surrounding the current global insurance and financial industry, such as climate change risk, digital transformation, cyber risk, protection gaps and DE&I in a society and economy changing significantly and becoming more complex. In this particular environment, it is very meaningful in terms of demonstrating Japan's presence internationally as well as socially to provide a platform for robust debate as Japan invites insurance supervisors and insurance companies from around the world.

In June 2019, the LIAJ hosted the Insurance Forum Japan 2019 as a platform for international debate on insurance in Tokyo in tandem with the G20 Osaka Summit under Japan's G20 Presidency, as well as with the robust support and cooperation from the Japanese government, the Global Federation of Insurance Associations (GFIA) and the General Insurance Association of Japan (GIAJ). As to further promote and deepen these international efforts, the LIAJ will provide the utmost support for the 2023 IAIS AGM and the Annual Conference by cooperating and collaborating with the organizations and parties involved.

As the spread of Covid-19 continues unabated, convening an in-person event may be difficult. We strongly hope that the situation improves and returns to normal, as we look toward the days in which we can warmly embrace and welcome the multitude of key stakeholders from around the world to Japan.
